Question 1

The relationship between lyrics and visuals-
In my music video i have used this characteristic, there are variuos times in the video where we have linked lyrics to visuals.
For example a lyric in the song is “your name is all over my note book” in this shot in the video we have got our artist and positioned her in a tree writing a boy’s name all over her note book.

The relationship between music and visuals-
I have used this in my music video with different transitions being used on the beat in the song. I have also used transitions that fit the genre of song, which is quite slow paced, i have used transitions like fading in/out, this has given a good effect to my music video.
I have developed a visual style and brand identity through the matching of typography, the same font appears on the start of the music video, on the CD cover and on the magazine advert.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media product uses conventions of real media products for example, it uses principles from Goodwin's theory.
- Genre Characteristics: This is when the genre of the of the artist/band corresponds to what the music video will be like, for example if the genre of a band was rock, you would expect to see them in a performance based video, with the band in all of the shots at all times. The genre of our artist is acoustic, so our music video is narrative and part performance based.

This is a shot from our music video. In this shot our artist (Lily Norman) is singing , this is a performance based part of our music video. We decided to use some perfromance as we thought it would be more interesting to the audience, plus it would be a challenge for us when it came to the editing stage.

Question 2
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
I created a brand identity across my ancillary tasks by using the same font across them to promote our artist. "Lily Norman" is seen in the same font on the cover of my CD, and on the Magazine advert, the reason i have done this is because when people see the font they then think about the artist.
Question 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
From the film pitch we did in one of our media lessons i got feedback from the audience, this helped me to change some of the things in my music videos and analyse what things may may the music video look better.
One of the questionnaire said that it would be better with more colourisation, i then went back to my music video and played around with the colourisation to then find that when i added different colourisation to the video it gave it more depth and also made it more interesting.

For example in this shot, our artist Lily Norman is lip syncing to the song, in the first picture colourisation has been added and in the second picture it hasn't, we though that in the first picture it made the scene look more magical and enchanted, this would keep with the theme that our music video was shot in a forest, it also corresponds with the song as the song is acoustic and this is the genre that you would associate with this type of setting.
From our feedback we also found that the audience thought that our lip syncing was quite convincing, we are glad with this because it took a lot of time and effort into making sure that the visuals matched the audio. We also made an effort to make the lyrics match the visuals, we did this by using props and gestures to show that it corresponded with the song.
In this image you can see our artist Lily Norman with a note book, this was a shot that was done purposely, it matches the lyrics " your name is all over my note book ". We thought that it would be a good shot to use, we decided on having our artist in a tree for a different type of scene, i think this again matched the genre of the music and makes the artist seem very laid back and relaxed. Some other feedback that was brought up was the use of fast cut montage, some of the audience didn't think that it worked in the music video, i disagree with this feedback. I think that it brings something else to the music video and makes it more interesting. It makes it seem like a music video and not a short story, i think without the fast cut montage it may have made the music video a bit boring and would have maybe lost the audiences attention.

Ancillary tasks
Corrine Bailey Rae gave me inspiration into my design for my CD cover, her genre of music is the same as our artist. In Corrine's album cover she uses the same colours as we have, these are earthy colours, she also used a picture of what looks like a woods, with tree's and leaves. We have also used this in our CD cover. The font is not the same as ours, but the colour of the font is, with the our artist name in bigger font than the album cover, this is because we want to sell our artist through her own name and brading, as Corrine Bailey Rae does too.

There is not industry information on the front of her CD cover, we have chosen to use this idea as well, as we want the artist to sell herself and not the record company. We will include the record company and other industry information on the back of the album, this is where you would normally find this information on other Cd's. The layout of the CD is kind of the same to our CD cover, as if focuses on the artist and not anything else. We have used a image of our artist walking towards the camera, which i think will draw the audiences attention because the artist is focusing on the audience. The name of this album is 'The Sea' which is quite controversial as there is not correspondence to the sea or anything that is normally associated with the sea. I thought at first glance that she looked like a mermaid, but then i looked closer and it looks like she is supposed to be an angel of some sort, i dont some research into this album and found out it was released because of her loosing her husband 'Jason Rae'. Her looking like an angel in the photo could be that she wants to go and see her husband in heaven, or she is trying to contact him through her music.
Editing
Day 1: This day we uploaded all of our footage to the mac's. We started taking out bits from our footage that we wanted to upload for our music video. We then positioned them in what we wanted our music video to look like, with our opening shot of our artist 'Lily Norman' walking towards the camera.
Day 2: From taking bits out of our footage, we then tweaked them so they would fit in, with shots not being longer than 4 seconds as this would not catch the audiences attention. We uploaded our music to our footage and fitted in shots and transitions where the beat is. We also used fast cut montage to catch the audiences attention, and make the music video more interesting.
Day 3: From our footage, we had shots of our artist lip syncing, we edited it so she was miming at the same time as the music. This was a bit tricky, but when we filmed her lip syncing she sang out loud so it made it easier matching it to the music. We added transitions and clip effects to make it look like a music video. We used soft transitions as it went with the genre of music.
Day 4: We added the rest of our footage with some still pictures. We then added more transitions and more lip syncing.
Day 5: This was our final day of editing, we had a bit of trouble as we wanted to add more transitions in to make the shots more softer to go with the genre of music, but when we were doing this we had to take out delete some of our shots so that our lip syncing was not affected, we added more transitions and editing effects, like jump cutting, fst cut montage and colourisation, on one of our clips our artist is walking through the woods, and we jump cutted the shot on the beat and added over exposure, this gave the shot a good effect and looked like it was from a real music video.

House colours and Star image motif
These are the ideas that i have had for the font of the artists name on the album cover.

As our music video was filmed in a woods in the autumn, the ideas we had for our house colours were autumnal colours like oranges, reds and browns. These colours will appear in the music video and on the album cover itself. This house colour is individual as you can pick it up throughout the video and is quite obvious.

Narrative based music video's
This video is a narrative based video which also has some performance in it too, Taylor swift sings the lyrics while the narrative is going on around her this is what i plan to use in my video.

CD Design
Our video is narrative based, so we came up with the idea of using shots from the video on and inside the album cover. We had the idea of our artist walking towards us on the front of the album cover and then walking away from us on the back of the album cover to feel like an ending. Her star image motif will autumnal colours and leaves this is because where we filmed was in a forest and these colours where in the mise-en-scene.

Front Cover and Back Cover

Flat plan, 1st square back cover, 2nd and 3rd square inside the pull out poster. These pictures correspond with the music video and appear in the music video as lyrics and visuals. 4th square front cover.

1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th square will appear inside the digipack as a poster that pulls out, these pictures also correspond with the music video and match lyrics to visuals.

Shooting schedule
13/10/10: On this day we went to Hitch wood, where we filmed the introduction to our music video, and shots that needed lip syncing, the mise-en-scene for these shots was in a woods so there was nothing that we could take away if needed, although in some of these shots we added features to the music video. "Your name is all over my note book", in this shot we used a note book with a girl writing her lover's name all over it.
19/10/10: We went to go and film at our location on this day, when we booked the camera out in school it had battery but when we arrived at our location and started to film the camera would not turn on.
22/10/10: We finished filming the rest of our music video on this day, due to a lack of resources at school we were not able to get a tripod so we had to balance a camera on a stool. We achieved the same effect that a tripod uses.
