Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product uses conventions of real media products for example, it uses principles from Goodwin's theory.

- Genre Characteristics: This is when the genre of the of the artist/band corresponds to what the music video will be like, for example if the genre of a band was rock, you would expect to see them in a performance based video, with the band in all of the shots at all times. The genre of our artist is acoustic, so our music video is narrative and part performance based.

This is a shot from our music video. In this shot our artist (Lily Norman) is singing , this is a performance based part of our music video. We decided to use some perfromance as we thought it would be more interesting to the audience, plus it would be a challenge for us when it came to the editing stage.

The relationship between lyrics and visuals-
In my music video i have used this characteristic, there are variuos times in the video where we have linked lyrics to visuals.
For example a lyric in the song is “your name is all over my note book” in this shot in the video we have got our artist and positioned her in a tree writing a boy’s name all over her note book.

The relationship between music and visuals-
I have used this in my music video with different transitions being used on the beat in the song. I have also used transitions that fit the genre of song, which is quite slow paced, i have used transitions like fading in/out, this has given a good effect to my music video.

I have developed a visual style and brand identity through the matching of typography, the same font appears on the start of the music video, on the CD cover and on the magazine advert.

Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

I created a brand identity across my ancillary tasks by using the same font across them to promote our artist. "Lily Norman" is seen in the same font on the cover of my CD, and on the Magazine advert, the reason i have done this is because when people see the font they then think about the artist.

Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

From the film pitch we did in one of our media lessons i got feedback from the audience, this helped me to change some of the things in my music videos and analyse what things may may the music video look better.
One of the questionnaire said that it would be better with more colourisation, i then went back to my music video and played around with the colourisation to then find that when i added different colourisation to the video it gave it more depth and also made it more interesting.

For example in this shot, our artist Lily Norman is lip syncing to the song, in the first picture colourisation has been added and in the second picture it hasn't, we though that in the first picture it made the scene look more magical and enchanted, this would keep with the theme that our music video was shot in a forest, it also corresponds with the song as the song is acoustic and this is the genre that you would associate with this type of setting.

From our feedback we also found that the audience thought that our lip syncing was quite convincing, we are glad with this because it took a lot of time and effort into making sure that the visuals matched the audio. We also made an effort to make the lyrics match the visuals, we did this by using props and gestures to show that it corresponded with the song.

In this image you can see our artist Lily Norman with a note book, this was a shot that was done purposely, it matches the lyrics " your name is all over my note book ". We thought that it would be a good shot to use, we decided on having our artist in a tree for a different type of scene, i think this again matched the genre of the music and makes the artist seem very laid back and relaxed.

Some other feedback that was brought up was the use of fast cut montage, some of the audience didn't think that it worked in the music video, i disagree with this feedback. I think that it brings something else to the music video and makes it more interesting. It makes it seem like a music video and not a short story, i think without the fast cut montage it may have made the music video a bit boring and would have maybe lost the audiences attention.
